WAEC grading system for 2018 wassce.

The most frequently asked questions among SHS graduates as well as students is on what basis does WAEC transform their exam scores into grades.

WAEC grades candidates subject by subject ranging from A1 to F9 with grade A1 interpreted as Excellent  and the best grade a candidate can ever get in the WASSCE examination.

Followed by B2 and B3 which are interpreted as Very good and Good respectively.
The 'C' range i.e C4, C5 and C6 are interpreted as credit passes.

D7 and E8 are interpreted as passes and the last and the lowest grade F9 interpreted as failure.
With the above interpretation, one would ask how are the figures transformed into letters?

ANSWER.

So after the marking of the WASSCE,  the raw scores obtained in all the sections of the subject, i.e  the theory, objective test, practicals, as well as project works are broken down to a hundred percent  by dividing the total marks obtained by the candidate by the total marks of the paper and multiplying it by 100%.

After obtaining the percentage mark of the candidate,  if it is WASSCE for school candidates, the 100% mark is further broken down to 70% and continues  assessment of 30% is added to make 100
If it is WASSCE for private candidates popularly known as Nov/Dec, the marks will not be broken down to 70% because no continues assessment is added to it.

After the above process is completed,  WAEC will now have marks ranging from 0 to 100 they then use the following system in allocating the grades according to the percentage mark obtained :

75 to 100.        A1.                Excellent

70 to 74.          B2.                Very Good

65 to 69.          B3.                 Good

60 to 64.          C4.                Credit

55 to 59.          C5.                Credit

50 to 54.           C6.               Credit

45 to 49.           D7.               Pass

40 to 44.           E8.               Pass

0 to 39.             F9.               Fail

Good luck as you check your wassce results.
