West Africa SHS took second position in 2018 NSMQ
The Adentan Based West Africa Senior High School was the only school in Greater Accra to reach the finals of the 2018 national science and Maths quiz;
a competition organized by primetime productions with the aim of encouraging the study of science and maths in Ghana and also to provide a healthy academic competition among senior high schools in ghana.
Represented by Akoh Sahene and Tade Abdul Hameed, West Africa SHS put up an impressive performance giving their opponents Adisadel college and the Kwahu based St Peter's SHS a very tough contest though it was their first time to reach the grand finale in this prestigious competition.
At the beginning of the contest, Adisadel collage; the four times champions and the 2017 second runner-up of the competition was at a comfortable lead with 24 points at the end of round one leaving St Peter's and West Africa SHS 22 and 17 points respectively.
The contest become more tougher and more interesting at the round 4 where the first became last and the last becaming first,
At the round 4, contestants are presented with statements for them to decide whether it is true or false, this is where West Africa SHS demonstrated their greatness by answering all questions correctly.
However, round 4 was the round that caused a great destruction to the four times champions Adisadel collage, they were able to answer only a few of these questions getting most of the wrong.
At the end of round 4 which was the last but one, West Africa SHS jumped to the top with St Peter's second and Adisadel at the bottom.
A very charged atmosphere was observed at the at the auditorium as supporters of West Africa SHS sang songs of victory thinking that they had already won the contest for the first time.
At round 5 also the final round, the contest was mainly between West Africa SHS and St Peter's with the two schools answering riddles at later clues for three points.
St Peter's however managed to answer the third riddle bringing them on top with only one mark ahead of west Africa SHS
the last riddle was attempted by West Africa SHS but unfortunately they got it wrong, it was then answered by Adisadel Collage.
The contest came to an end with St Peter's SHS 45 points
West Africa SHS 44 points and Adisadel collage 39 points.
